Chasing Sensitive Data: CONVERGE Q&A With Harman Kaur

Tanium Reveal can give you real time compliance status across your enterprise by locating sensitive data at scale, within seconds. At CONVERGE 2019, Harman Kaur, a Director of Technical Account Management at Tanium, will host the Technical Lab ‘Using Tanium Reveal to Find Sensitive Data and Meet Compliance’. We met with Harman ahead of CONVERGE for an insightful Q&A.

Describe what you do:

I am a Technical Account Manager focused on Federal and DoD customers. I’ve been with Tanium for about two and a half years now. Before joining Tanium, I was in the military, and when I left there was a piece of me that still wanted to be able to make a difference. Here, I get to work on the DoD side of things, influencing change management projects and engage with customers every day. It’s very rewarding to see the impact it has on our customers’ organizations.

Without giving away spoiler alerts, what can you share with us today about your CONVERGE session?

We released Tanium Reveal earlier this year and it has had an incredible response from our customers. Organizations are struggling to find sensitive data that shouldn’t be on their endpoints, and that’s why they really gravitate towards Reveal. In the Technical Lab session at CONVERGE 2019, we are going to showcase how you find that sensitive data, how you can identify where it comes from, and how to prevent that from happening in the future.

Why is it important to discuss how to find sensitive data today?

Regulations like HIPAA, CCPA and PCI have hefty consequences for not complying, which can have severe impact on how you can operate your business. We’ve heard from customers that one breach, even in very large organizations, can put them out of business. So discussing how to monitor or search for sensitive data across any number of endpoints – that matters.

What other CONVERGE 2019 Breakout or Technical Lab Session would you attend?

There’s so many, but let me pick three. First, Tanium Patch Reporting Strategies for the Enterprise, for sure. Every organization needs to learn about patching status. Second, Understanding and Implementing Tanium User Permissions. I think really understanding how your teams can leverage Tanium by effectively implementing Role Based Access Control (RBAC) will be a really good one to spend time on. Third, Tanium Performance, because it is a brand new product and I think Performance is an incredible module. We’ve seen a lot of interest from large organizations that want to implement it to figure out what’s going on with endpoints and improve user experience.

What’s the one thing you hope attendees will walk away with after they’ve attended CONVERGE 2019?

I really hope attendees walk away with something new they want to implement in their organization. It doesn’t have to be a new Tanium module, just a simple thing like, ‘In this Tanium Patch session, we learned how we can keep our leadership and entire organization aware of our patching levels, and we’re going to take this information and implement that in our organization. ’Or learning that, ‘Hey, we really do need this Tanium module, and this is why we need it’ and then be able to articulate that to their leadership. That’s what I really hope people walk away with, and of course the interest to come back again next year for CONVERGE 2020!
