How to Foster an Award-Winning Workplace and Culture

At the close of a successful 2023 award season, Tanium Chief People Officer Tobias Julén reflects on all the factors that make Tanium such a great place to work

Our Culture

As we round out another exciting and successful award season that included Tanium placing on FORTUNE’s 100 Best Companies to Work For, being recognized as a Great Place to Work in the United Kingdom, France, and Japan, and, just today, being honored as a Best Workplace in Technology— I am reflecting on what makes Tanium such a special place to work.

As Chief People Officer at Tanium, I have the privilege of hearing directly from our team members each year on why they think Tanium is a great place to work. We are a people-first, values-driven company working on an amazing platform in service of a critical mission; to provide certainty in uncertain times.

A mission-critical platform

Our mission is a powerful one. We provide the world’s most well-respected and security-conscious organizations with visibility, control, and remediation—in real time, and at a speed and scale unlike any other provider. Tanium protects people, defends data, and secures systems behind the critical infrastructure and services that make up the backbone of our global economy and society. We can only accomplish an important mission like this with ground-breaking technology and the best talent in the industry.

A once-in-a-lifetime impact

We hire the best of the best, and we’re not shy to admit it. A mission as critical as ours inspires our top talent to do the best work of their career, and it’s our job to create an environment where they have the tools they need to make a true impact. This includes a world-class new-hire onboarding program, ongoing technical and skill-based training for our customer-facing teams, professional skills-building courses for all team members, and leader development curricula.

Our people come to work every day knowing they’re helping make the world a safer, more secure place. That’s a powerful differentiator.

A people-first philosophy

Today’s top talent demands more from employers than ever before, and that’s a good thing. We continually gather feedback from our team members around the world and commit to action based on their input.

One example is our approach to a modern way of working. We continuously evolve our working practices to enable our team members to do their best work every day, even as circumstances change. We support our team members with virtual and in-person engagement events. While our people-first strategy remains the same, we listen to the needs of our team members and have evolved, and will continue to evolve, our approach over time as those needs change.

We also make sure our benefits are deeply people-first. While many companies offer video game rooms, nap rooms, dinner services, and more, we consciously offer different benefits and programs. We want team members to come to work to contribute towards our success, while still retaining a work-life balance so they can make ample time for the things that matter to them. We provide benefits that team members actually ask for: uncapped paid time off, better parental leave policies, equity refreshes, and great offices with food and beverage services.

A culture to be proud of

These themes come together to create a mission-driven, impactful place to work that welcomes and takes care of top talent and creates an environment where they can thrive. Awards like today’s Best in Technology accolade are the cherry on top, but what really makes Tanium a great place to work is the lived experience of our team members every day.
