By using Tanium and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, JLL modernized its cybersecurity framework and cut spending by 20 percent

Customer Spotlight

At Tanium, we’re proud to work with some of the best technology and managed service partners in the industry. Together, we and our partner network can deliver a stunning amount of value to our shared customers.

Among our extensive list of partnerships, few compare to our partnership with Microsoft – both in terms of the breadth of our shared services and integrations as well as the impact we jointly provide our customers.

Of course, everyone knows Microsoft and recognizes the integral role it plays in the global IT landscape. That’s why we get a huge thrill any time the Microsoft team acknowledges the fantastic work we do together, such as choosing us to participate in the Microsoft Copilot for Security Partner Private Preview or when we were named a Partner of the Year for 2023.

Most recently, the Microsoft team published a joint case study of Jones Lang LaSalle, better known as JLL, the innovative and globe-spanning real estate organization.

JLL: A Tanium & Microsoft success story

Microsoft’s JLL case study highlights how JLL uses Tanium and Microsoft to simplify, improve, and secure its cybersecurity framework and complex technical estate of nearly 90,000 endpoints. In the process, JLL reduced its operational costs by 20 percent – for a savings of $5 million – and enhanced its cyber threat detection and protection capabilities.

Tanium helps JLL achieve these results by providing real-time visibility into any threat activity during the transition to a consolidated cybersecurity framework utilizing Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and Microsoft 365 E5, which provides productivity apps and advanced security capabilities. The close partnership between Microsoft and Tanium helps assure the depth and quality of JLL’s security controls.

I sleep much more soundly knowing that Microsoft and Tanium are closely partnered to provide me with assurance on both the depth and quality of my security controls across my technology estate.

Joe Silva, CISO, JLL

A time for a change

According to JLL, part of the decision to consolidate its cybersecurity tech stack with Tanium and Microsoft was the insufficiency of its previous cybersecurity framework and vendors. Microsoft’s case study quotes Joe Silva, CISO at JLL, “CrowdStrike, while mostly effective for us, had to be augmented with outside support from our team, a lot of customization, a lot of enhanced detections, and a lot of processes to compensate for gaps.” As a result of these issues, JLL sought out a solution that would better meet its long-term cybersecurity needs.

The JLL team ultimately chose to work with Tanium and Microsoft to standardize their security tooling because of Tanium’s track record as a proven vendor, Microsoft’s unmatched reputation for IT capability and roadmap, and the extensive integration between our platforms. Furthermore, the Tanium team helped secure the deal with our roadmap of product enhancements that are developed to make it easier to deploy MDE and monitor its health in real time.

“The decision to standardize our security tooling on Tanium and Microsoft was really borne out of two elements,” says Dane Thomas, Head of Global Security Engineering at JLL. “One, the trust in Tanium. We know that they’re a proven vendor, and when you think about who has the greatest capability and who has the most to offer on the road map, you definitely have to consider Microsoft at the top of that docket. The combination of the capability, the investment, and then the ability to deliver with Tanium… I think the combination, there is a no-brainer.”

And with the implementation of JLL’s innovative new cybersecurity framework in place, the team is reaping the rewards. “In our new framework, we couple the unparalleled visibility and control of Tanium with the world-class security capabilities of Microsoft,” says Silva. “That’s something that no other vendor can offer us.”
